How This Typing Speed Test Works
This free typing speed test measures how many words per minute (WPM) you can type, along with your accuracy, using one of several randomly selected paragraphs. As you type, each character is checked against the target text and highlighted green for correct or red for incorrect, so you can see your mistakes in real time. The timer starts the moment you press your first key and stops automatically once you've typed the entire passage.
WPM is calculated using the standard formula of one "word" equal to five characters, so the count reflects typing speed consistently regardless of average word length. Accuracy is the percentage of characters you typed correctly out of everything you typed, including characters you later corrected.
How to Use the Typing Speed Test
- Read the paragraph shown above the text box.
- Click into the text box and start typing — the timer and live WPM counter start automatically on your first keystroke.
- Keep typing until you reach the end of the paragraph. Correct characters turn green, mistakes turn red.
- Review your final WPM, accuracy percentage, time taken, and error count.
- Click Try Again for a new random paragraph.
